The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Seen at Naples Botanical Gardens in Florida. I was attracted to the vibrant green hue and wanted to capture the symmetrical, radiating pattern and intricate geometric structure of this handsome palm. I was pleased to have some backlighting too, which helped to emphasize the texture and veins.

I like this one, Jim. The differences between the two sides of the frond are amazing for the slightly different angles. I’m sure it’s just the engineer in me, but I’d really like the stem vertical.
Jim: Palm fronds are such great graphic subjects and you caught this one in such good shape. It’s interesting to hear @Dennis_Plank comment regarding having the stem vertical. If I was composing this I would probably have chosen a bit more of a slant. I don’t think you could go wrong with whatever orientation you choose but I find it fascinating how we all have individual psychological responses to visual stimuli. All in all a superb capture of a compelling subject. >=))>
@Bill_Fach , thanks so much for your kind words and you make a good point. I recall when framing it, I was actually considering a horizontal placement for the stem but that just didn’t seem “right” to me, so that was my own psychological response at the time, lol.
Jim, this looks great. Both versions work very well. The frond is so symmetrical that I don’t think that it needs to be perfectly vertical to show off the symmetry. The lighting shift from left to right add some extra interest. BTW shooting this with the stem horizontal would detract from it’s impact, since symmetry of the fronds would occupy much less space and I think you’d lose the sunburst feeling.
Hi Jim: I’ve seen quite a few comments on orientations of the frond in this thread and thought I’d throw out another possibility. I doubt it it would work for this one unless you composed it fairly loosely in-camera, but I think a diagonal orientation with a square crop would also look very cool.
