Image Description
The Amboseli plain, with its picturesque acacia trees, is the perfect setting for sunrise and sunset photography. Hyenas (‘fisi’ in Swahili) emerge at precisely those moments…

I would expect to see this photo in an advert for a savannah safari lodge - and indeed a photo that few of the guests achieve. The pieces that attract are the sun, being partially in the evening dust as well as the sun, the largest tree and the hyena forming a triangle. The pieces that seems out of place are the foreground line that appears as the earth spill from a trench or drain and the halo around the hyena - although this halo and that in the trees could well be a compression artefact when reducing the size of the photo for this post. Nice photo.
@Mike_Friel Thank you! I know larger photos are more impressive… @Rob_Sykes Thank you! Yes, what you see is the earth spill of a trench. You can’t leave the roads in Amboseli, so therefore you can see the trenches easily in many of the photos from there. I don’t see the halo myself on my screen.
Grt, Ingrid.
Lovely scene that depicts the landscape of Africa so well with the sunset adding a great level of interest. Finding the hyena takes the scene up a notch as the place for amazing wildlife.
