Fore and Aft

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This hibiscus lives on our back patio and has been a prolific bloomer all year but today is one of the very few days in the year where the lighting all came together. The patio is on the west side of the house and in shade at sunrise but for the past week as the sun has shifted south it shines through our east facing front door and through the French doors leading to the patio to give me this front and backlighting. Serendipity was enhanced by perfectly calm conditions that let me do some different comps with more extensive stacks. Perhaps I’ll post them later.>=))>

Specific Feedback

The front shot is tight but I have a hard time beating my old film days fill-the-frame habits.

Wonderful, and the second one makes me smile – good eye!! (Well, expected, I guess, from an eye doc.) With the gorgeous subjects you have, tight in the frame works!

Hi Bill. I like both shots, but the “fore” view looks a bit bright particularly the highlights. I think you could bring the entire flower down a bit then see if the highlights need additional attention. The rear view is just awesome.
