Description

Our Fully Recovered hibiscus continues to bloom prolifically and this morning I caught a new bloom getting a nice brush of early light. I had a few frames where the light was even as clouds passed overhead but I liked this more vibrant view and the subtle backlighting on the petals. >=))>

Specific Feedback

The stem is just a tiny bit soft and I lost a few frames due to motion blur from a gentle breeze. I just realized that I was shooting ISO 100 instead of my customary 400 default thus the slow SS. Probably could have done a stack but I’m still pretty pleased with this outcome.

THE LIGHT !!! Well done … Beautiful Image…

The bud shaped light window is interesting, but I find this is an image without a direction. Well, maybe that’s not quite it. It feels disjointed somehow. Maybe that was the intent. The light in the petals is really wonderful, but I don’t know why I’m looking at them when you clearly want me to look at the base of the stem. Ack - it’s probably just me. So wonderful that things are still blooming for you. Probably a couple of weeks to a month here and things will be shut down. I can only hope the new and transplanted plants will overwinter with enough care and mulch.

I agree with Kris - I find my eye yo-yoing between the (admittedly attractive) petals at the top and the green base. When I look at this as a square crop of the lower part, I like very much what I see, an even more unusual take on a hibiscus.

Absolutely gorgeous image, Bill. I love how the leaf spans the bottom of the frame and seems to support the bloom. Great job seeing this and an even better job photographing it.

This works for me – the point of light leads my eye to the flowing lines in the petals. I guess the tonalities could be balanced a bit more but it doesn’t feel necessary. If I have a nit it would be the horizontal leaf at the bottom. I think I wish that was just fading to a dark red. But that’s a pretty trivial thing for a very original capture!

Hi Bill,

I love the rich red tones in the petals. I really enjoy the movement and flow from the stem up to the top of the petals. It feels like I am in a skating bowl moving up and back down. Such an interesting perspective.

This is such a wonderful image! Shooting from the underside of the flower has created an almost abstract feel. The play of colour is really effective with the greens and reds, and I love the texture of the calyx against the soft petals.
