Bill, a very interesting look at a spider from this viewpoint. I do think with stacking you could have got the subject’s abdomen in sharper focus. If you set the Focus Bracket mode to a larger number of shots, and the differential to 2 or 3, this should help. I find, with this camera, that the Stacking mode with a max of 15 shots does not work so well for a detailed shot like this (in case you used this). The green BG is great.
Bill, this is an interesting look at this spider. In looking at the details, I do feel like there are small bits of the web (particularly on the right) that are missing. This is probably your stacking software. It would also be good to see her eyes sharply, although, again that may be your software. I’ve used Helicon Focus since it first came out and like it a lot. They offer a 30 day free trial, so you could run comparison tests, if you still have your original shots. Other photographers like Zerene, which also has a 30 day free trial.
BTW it looks like you’ve posted two photos in a day, which is forbidden by the posting guidelines. (You get a free pass on that for your first time.)
Thanks Mark. And thanks for the pass, I’ll remember for the future. Bill
Bill: Great subject and shooting webs is always tough if there is even the tiniest of zephyrs. I’ll echo Mark regarding the stack. I was an avowed single capture guy up until a year or so ago and then took the plunge into Helicon and have really enjoyed the results. I could never get this kind of subject with my current rig since my camera will not auto capture the images and the subject has to be pretty much perfectly still. My only other suggestion would be a slightly wider view including the entire spider with room around all the legs. Still a pretty darn good effort and result. >=))>
Bill,
Thank you for the feedback and guidance for this and my other image of the ladybug. I will keep experimenting with stacking and composition. These bugs can be tricky.
Thanks, Bill
