Image Description
I love seeing cattails near aquatic areas in the summer and winter, especially after seed dispersal, as shown here. I was going to isolate them more, but liked the snowy hills in the background, making an intimate landscape. Observed near a frozen pond here in CT but they are found all over the Northern Hemisphere.

Jim, the warm colors of the cattails stand out against the snowy background. I think your 50:50 split of cattails and snow works well at showing off both aspects of the scene.
Jim, I too like how you composed this scene. There is nice balance with the snow covered hills and position of the cattails. Thank you for not sectioning the background into thirds. I also like how you have separated the cattails from the background. I think trying to bring out more detail in the background would be confusing. I do think there are some spots, most noticeable in the lower half, in the grayer snow, to consider removing. I kept brushing my screen to make sure it wasn’t me:) Love the cattails too. Grew up near a couple of ponds full of them, now a subdivision:( Miss the calls of the red-winged blackbirds there as well.
@Mark_Seaver, and @marlindmills, thank you for your kind remarks. Marlin, good eye, hadn’t noticed them and another good reason for others to view
