A quiet snowy corner

New snowfall in the local ravine…

Specific Feedback Requested

I have been fiddling with this image for some time to get what I hope is a pleasing level of contrast, depth and softness to capture the hush of snowfall in the local ravine. Sharpness wasn’t top of mind as I plan to print this fairly small (5x7) and the falling snow blurs the image anyhow. But contrast, balance, colour, depth…I’ve been playing with that to make it work. I have also cropped a little at the bottom and from each edge, but not the top. I tried it black and white, but I prefer the subtle colour. Would welcome any feedback!

I like the calm and gentle mood in the image, and your processing efforts helped convey that mood.I also like the splash of warm color provided by the cattails, they help anchor what would other wise be a more abstract image. You definitely achieved some warm/cool and sharp/soft contrast in the image.

My personal opinion is that the cattails (and the bottom half of the image in general), are more interesting than the top half of the image. I think a crop from the top might help, removing about the top 1/4 of the image. Just my $0.02 worth.

Thanks for the feedback. I had not thought of cropping from the top as I liked the way my eye wanders up and then gets lost in the depth a bit. But the tighter crop does make it more about shapes and shadows - could work as well. Thanks
