Frosty Mt Burgess Morning with repost

Repost: Slight shift in crop angle and attempt to eliminate some branches from out of frame tree on the left.

Original Post

Image Description

This image was taken a little over a year ago in Yoho National Park, while I was on a workshop at Emerald Lake Lodge. The first snow came on our first night, and the next morning, Mt Burgess would come and go. I have some images where the mountain looks like a buffalo head barely detectable as a mountain in the clouds, and others where the light came out just enough for some color to hit the sensor. I think I shared that one last fall before my spouse’s cancer returned, she passed, and I kind of stopped taking pictures for a bit.

This is not a black and white image, just the dull colors of the scene, which were fitting for the moment. It was dawn-ish, and the color was fairly flat, the the air was still and it was very cold, making this image feel like a moment frozen in time before winter befell the place and my life more concretely.

Feedback Requests

Just sharing from my archive for the weekly challenge. Found again and processed just this evening as it was a “3 star” image right after the workshop, but has now been promoted to 4.

I’m open to any and all feedback.

Marylynne,

I don’t know, 4 stars? I think you are being a little hard on yourself. It is a WOW photograph for me. I love the crisp reflection and the absolute silent mood the photo portrays. Good stuff.

Thanks, @Youssef_Ismail. I don’t give anything a 5 star rating until it has been vetted by this group . Basically, it has to stun, otherwise it’s just a very good photograph that I can be proud of. I am proud of this one, and it fits the weekly challenge well. Very moody.

And it turns out I didn’t share the more colorful time of day last year. I’ll do that in a few days.

Hi Marylynne! I have to agree with Youssef - this is definitely a 5 * in my book. I love the lighting, the silent mood and reflection, and the way the cloud circles but barely obscures the mountain. Definitely a 5 star image. Well done!

@Steve_Kennedy Maybe if I do a little cleanup around the upper left edge. Not sure how folks feel about the tree along right edge. The forest there is surprisingly dense, and cropping was a challenge.

Marylynne: Flat out wonderful! Yoho is such a neat place all the more so because it’s not so heavily trafficked as Banff and Jasper. Marvelous conditions and the hint of color makes this more appealing to me than if it was B&W. Most excellent. >=))>

Don’t need to rate this with Stars. This is an amazing image… This image has met your vision and then some. The Tone and Contrast is all there with little changes. Very Cool and Beautiful.

Marylynne, this is an excellent view, where the subtle touches of blue in the water and the perfect reflection add well to the viewing. Removing that bit of tree on the left edge looks good. The one on the right looks fine.
