I am interested in treatment of the BG (OOF leaves). I have an alternate treatment, darkening the BG shown below. Which do you like better?

Alternate image

This is a gorgeous image of a gardenia, so vibrant I can almost smell it. I much prefer the first image and I think the brightness of the petals in the second image came down a little as well as the background leaves. Maybe that’s an illusion.

Phil, I really don’t see any significant difference between the two, although the second the BG seems a little darker, but not much. I have to say though that for hand held the details are really good, and it’s nice that you were able to get good focus on the overall frame at f6.3.

Phil: The BG on the right side works well for me in both iterations but the light chocolate brown area on the left is light enough to get my attention. I might selectively darken that or take it all the way to black. Beautiful rendition of the flower. >=))>

Following Bill’s advice

Notably better IMO. >=))>
