Golden Paintbrush

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I try to photograph this plant every year one place or another. In my early days of volunteering on the local prairies, this was listed as an endangered species. There was one small local population and a dozen others in Oregon and Washington combined. Largely through the efforts of my fellow volunteers and the organizations they worked with, it was delisted a couple of years ago. While not everywhere, there are large populations in several prairies in our area (and a few in my own prairie).

Specific Feedback

I’m interested in how the transition from foreground to background works for you. Being a stack, it feels just a bit abrupt to me and I’m not sure I know of a way to avoid that.

Technical Details

Sony A7Rv, FE70-200 f/4 macro @ 120 mm, tripod, f/8, 1/1000, iso 640, 35 images stacked in Helicon Focus. Cropped to a 3994x5678 vertical from a horizontal original. Some cleanup in PS and final adjustments in LR. Taken this morning under very light haze.

Dennis: Kudos to you for your efforts in reestablishing this little beauty. I love your POV and the light especially and for me the separation of the main subject from the BG that you achieved with the stack is just about perfect. Even after you pointed out the abruptness I don’t find anything off key at all. Nicely crafted image. >=))>
