Description

Found a few Paintbrush hanging out in dappled light while exploring a burned Ponderosa forest a few days ago. The fresh colors of new life were a welcome break from shooting infrared images of the burned out oaks and pines at the lower end of Oak Creek Rd. near Naches Washington. Most of the wildflowers were in the last rays of morning light before full, bright sun took over the day. I had walked into the forest wanting to photograph the Ponderosa Pines…some were still beautiful, the orange bark deeply separated by black veins and some were partially burned making some nice contrasts . With this in mind I had grabbed only a 24-120mm f4 lens that usually makes bokeh something to avoid but in this case it was acceptable. The truck wasn’t far away but I didn’t see the walk back to get a macro lens paying off so I used what I had and made the best of it. Good times in the forest…what could be better?

Bruce: Next to bluebonnets paintbrush are my favorite Texas wildflowers. I also like shooting in light like this and think your DOF choice is spot on for the subject. Nice find and fine capture. >=))>
