Grace in the Shallows

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image was taken in a bird blind at the Vindicari nature preserve in Sicily, Italy. This is a favorite spot of ours to take avian photos and it’s only about 45 minutes away from home. I’ve taken many images of flamingos here most of which are underwhelming but I love how this one came out.

Hi Matthew, a really intriguing pose you caught. The bird seems to be hunting and preening at the same time. Sharpness and depth of field look good to me. I could see having more room on the right, top, and bottom.

Hi Matthew. Welcome to the Avian Forum. This is a really cool image. The pose is awesome with all those crazy angles. The only minor suggestions I could make would be to try pulling down the highlights a trifle at the bright spots on the neck and, if you have the canvas, giving the flamingo a bit more room all around.
