Granite Crown

From a cold and stormy morning earlier this month in the Sierra backcountry. There was a stiff wind blowing from the direction I was shooting so I utilized a 6 stop ND to take the chop out of the lake and streak the clouds. Single 30 sec exposure. Appreciate any and all comments on processing and/or composition.

I really like what you did here with the long exposure. Great light and comp. I’m on my phone right now but it looks like the shadow details are a bit contrasts especially on the left.

Real nice high country image. The processing looks on the money to me. I love the color in the water and the subtle shades in the sky. The ND filter worked well on this one, good idea. No nits here.

This is quite an appealing scene looking across the lake, Dave. With the long exposure, I like how you can see the wind direction, a really nice effect. That tends to create lead in lines to carry the eye into the distance, and it works well with the sky, too. My only suggestion is to modify/reshape that rectangular submerged rock. No doubt it’s natural but it seems out of place.

Excellent work with the filter, water color is gorgeous…
I might lift the LHC just a bit as it seems a bit dark compared to the rest of the frame.

Another High Sierra beauty Dave. You were rewarded with beautiful light, sky and the resulting reflection and colors in the lake are beautiful as well.

Compositionally, I’m a bit torn with the shallow rock in the LLC. And there’s a little bit of a purple cast just were that rock is submerged. I might be tempted with a 4:5 crop, shaving some off the left side to reduce the presence of that flat, dark rock LL. Just a thought.

Dave, the ND did a great job of bringing out the subtle colors in the reflection. Those colors and being able to see the stones at the bottom are my favorite parts of this excellent view.

Nice light indeed and good job w the nd. Looks good to me. Could be a fun bw perhaps if youre feeling fancy. Good stuff.

A wonderful high sierra take here, Dave. Leaves some of us older & warn down photogs thinking about some our earlier years on these back country trails.
I find your overall composition working very nicely. I thought on some ideas for change but could not see any positive ones to my liking. With that said it works best as is for me…:+1:
