Gray Fox vs. House Cat

I have had Gray Foxes around for many years. A couple years ago, the Gray Fox kits of that years’ litter were playing in my back yard under the watchful eye of the male fox, when this house cat came wandering through the yard. Normally, the adult foxes would shy away from a cat, but not this time. The male fox didn’t like this cat being around his kits. Just after I took this photo, the fox took off after the cat. He chased him just to the edge of my property, then stopped. No harm done to anyone, but it was interesting to watch!

Face off at the OK corral. This one tells a great story. I would probably put my money on the fox if it got nasty. :grinning:

Thanks, Harley. I think you’re probably correct, though I hope that never happens!

Wow! What an amazing sighting! If you have video on your camera you should record some of this stuff! You could make a backyard wildlife show!

I do have video capability - and it takes pretty good video - but I rarely use it. I don’t know why.

Me too. I don’t think I’ve ever used my video but there’s times when I should have!

Very interesting interaction, house cat appears to be well fed :sunglasses:

Yes, the cat probably outweighs the fox!
