Great Egret Early Morning

Great Egret (Ardea alba), Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge, Ridgefield, Washington, USA

I’m going back through my wildlife and avian raw files to reprocess them with the latest tech…plus, now that I am retired (yeah), I have the time to focus.

This is a shot from 2014, early morning as the sun was coming up. The sun highlighted the Egret but the rest of the area was still rather dark. I’ve tried to pull up the shadows, but every time I do, it loses the mood…so I leave it as is…

Works well for a tight crop. The detail is excellent. I note a tad of blue cast in the shadows near the neck.

Hi David! Retirement is awesome. This is a nice portrait. Excellent detail, and the lighting on the bird helps to de-emphasize the background detail. I see the color cast David mentioned. The shadow near the neck has more blue than the shadow by the legs.
