I think. The bill does seem longer than the head.

Nice habitat shot, with pleasant colors. The raised foot is always a bonus. Cannot help you with the ID though as I haven’t seen them that often myself. Cheers, Hans

Hi Allen
I believe this is a Greater Yellowleg, the Lesser Yellowleg has diffused pale streaks on the breast. I like the low angle and soft lighting. The eye contact and leg lift add a plus to this photograph.

I agree with Peter on the ID. Excellent pose and setting. I think you could easily cut 10% off the top. It would eliminate the OOF white reed In the top left which pulls my eye. I rarely see the species in this type of setting. Mostly on sandy beaches.
I like the pose with the foot up. Nice timing. Overall pleasing. Not sure the bird is quite as sharp as it could be. Of more distraction to me is the somewhat crunchy OOF reeds in the background. So just for fun, I pulled this into LightRoom and used a couple of the functions in the new masking capabilities.
Selected Subject, subtracted a linear gradient to remove the rest of the foreground. Applied negative Texture and added noise reduction to smooth out what was left.
A simple linear gradient to the bottom edge to again soften things up a tad.
Then another select subject to add a bit of texture, clarity and some sharpening to the bird.
Healed the white “line” in the upper part of the frame
Here’s the result:
Thanks, Keith. Looks good; definite improvement. Finally, masking in LR!
