Green Flow

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

At the end of a day’s butterfly photography in S. Thailand, this leaf on the edge of the forest was backlit by the sun at a low angle in the sky. I liked how it was double-ridged.

Specific Feedback

I tried all 4 rotations and preferred to have the visual flow going downwards. Any other preferences?

Technical Details

D500 + 105mm +1.4TC. 1/80 f 8 ISO 400

Ran through LR and PS, increasing Clarity (LR) and Vibrance (PS). Cropped for composition.

Lovely! Initially my eye resisted the “framing” of the two vertical lines, wanting instead to just see the beautiful detail in the middle, but the more time I spent with the more I enjoyed it all together.

This is a really interesting leaf Mike. I love the intricate lines of yellows and greens and those two ribs are great anchors. Nice lighting.

Beautiful leaf, with it’s flowing lines and ridges.
I like the orientation, too
Aren’t patterns in nature just marvelous?

Mike, this looks great as oriented. The mix of rising arches and vertical lines has good up/down eye movement. Those two ribs are a fine contrast to all of the gentle curves elsewhere.

Mike: Well seen! I like shooting backlit large leaves like this and think you did great. Ditto what Mark said. Most excellent. >=))>
