Green Herons

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I went to the local state park pond on Monday morning and found several active green herons. There are so many fish in the pond that the water ripples from them if a bird flies overhead (see first image). No wonder so many birds are attracted to this small body of water.

Specific Feedback

Any comments appreciated.

Another great series, Allen. I’m particularly fond of the angle you got on the first one. It’s so rare to get any bird coming at an angle like that. I am ambivalent about making it a reflection shot as I think it would be more powerful with the heron larger in the frame. The second and third images are excellent examples of feeding behavior. I really like the pose in the take-off shot at the end of the series, but I do find the background a bit distracting.

All-in-all a wonderful group of shots.

Really nice set of heron shots, Allen. One of my favorite birds. I like them all, but that last one is stellar.

I’m hoping the herons will be visiting our area soon. Usually in late August and September.

Cheers,
David

Four WOWs here!! For me, the second one is most outstanding (although they all are). I love the warm light and the reflection is just wonderful, even catching the fish!
