This is one of my favourite views and one of my favourite lighthouses on the Oregon coast and here I really like how the darker blue of the sky and water make the light rocks pop. Also, it’s really great that you timed this so we can see the light of the lighthouse.
In my eyes, the diagonal of the land vs sky balances the photo because of the fog. The soft sunlight on the guano and lighthouse really draw attention to the rocky cliffs and the white buildings. I really like the position of the light within the lighthouse because it does not overwhelm the structure of the light housing and the dimmer light lets my eyes rove throughout the photo. I can hear the “moo” of the lighthouse and the birds calling. For me, the only negative is the distracting white dot to the right of the buildings.
By the way, how many photos did you junk to get this one?
I love the atmosphere in this image, @SandyR-B! Moody and yet calming. Nicely composed and processed, really nothing I can pick on here. We’re spending the summer in Oregon, leaving in a week, and driving up the entire coast (for probably the 6th or 7th time - never gets old) and I can’t wait to fill up some memory cards. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
