Description
Yes I still have a camera!
Should have looked at the wind forecast for the day I went out, but I didn’t and of course it was like a monsoon with the macro lens. The light was decent though and the forest floor just carpeted with new life and opportunity. The wild garlic was so thick on the ground it was all I could smell. In amongst it though were all kinds of our usual spring ephemerals like this Pointed Lobed Hepatica. These differ a bit from the more common Round lobed variety in a few ways - first the leaf shape as you might deduce from their names, but also the flowers are larger, taller, have more petals and come more colors and combinations of colors like this one.
The beetle here is a tiny 5mm specimen of what I think is Asclera ruficollis, a type of false blister beetle. So small that at first I thought it might be a bee or a fly, but no, it’s a cute little beetle. Surprisingly compliant as I cleaned up the background, although it did move around the flower a lot and I ended up combining two photos to get the best result.
Specific Feedback
Should that little filament at the bottom go? I left it because it doesn’t annoy me. Also how does the combined photo look? Weird? I should have brought my flash. Doh!
Technical Details
Tripod
Lr for basic RAW edits and color corrections. Ps to combine both photos and do some selective masking and distraction removal. Lr for some additional texture, sharpening and this crop to vertical. Also masking to reduce the bg saturation a bit and increase it similarly in the subject.
