The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I took this a few years ago and I don’t remember the situation. But I like the pose. It was so sharp I actually had to scant blur on the image because I thought it looked a little crunchy. I also cleaned it up from the last time I posted it.
Specific Feedback
anything that helps with respect to my experience as a photographer
Technical Details
I cannot remember.
but I will tell you that the light part of the had on the right-hand side looks overexposed on my monitor at home. And I think it’s pretty well calibrated. I have noticed this issue numerous times as I’ve had to compensate by making the image darker. I failed to do that with this image so I think it’s a little bright.

David, I love how the bird is straddling that beautiful angled branch. And the eye contact is perfect. 2 very small things: that small white line in the BG at the top needs cloning out. And if you are concerned about the white on the bird’s right side (I only noticed it when you mentioned it), a little touch of reduced Highlights with LR’s adjustment brush might tame it. But it doesn’t bother me.
The perch and the way the Bushtit is straddling the V is utterly perfect, David. I think Mike nailed it with respect to potential changes. The white line he’s referring to is very fine and short, so you may have to look for it.
Oh wow, love the head on look and seeing both eye so well and sharp. Great that the bird posed in the dip of the perch with a sprig of lichen underneath. Agree with minor adjustments mentioned by Mike but this is a terrific image as is.
Oh what a cute little guy. Whenever I see the name of these birds, I’m reminded of Wallace Stegner’s novel The Spectator Bird where narrator Joe talks about them in his yard. If you’re an audio book person I highly recommend the one read by the late, Edward Hermann.
Anyway…other than what Mike mentioned, I can’t think of anything. Such an engaging photo!
Sorry guys, but I don’t see any white line at all on any of the versions I have this image. I am aware that sometimes when I crop I’ll get a white line at the very top of the image, but I have not seen what you refer to at all.
I have seen some pretty interesting issues with Photoshop and Lightroom. But no white lines on this image that I can see.
I spent all day looking for the original and was unable to find it, which is too bad because there’s a fine image. It will eventually show up.
Thanks to everyone, who looked at this. I really appreciate the feedback from Jim, Chris, Dennis, Bill, and all other folks who looked at it. I posted another bush tit image today, and I found a bunch more, but not the original.
Lovely!! I love the color of the eyes matching the gorgeous moss! The side isn’t too bright on my monitor. I always believe the histogram or the color sample tool.
Here’s the white line – I had to look hard to see it.
