Hawk and a killdeer (+rework)

Rework (lighter image):

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I don’t have many images of red-tailed hawks even though they are common in my area. This one flew by this morning at the state park pond. The killdeer was kind enough to give a full wing spread.

Specific Feedback

Any comments appreciated. Second image is a fairly sizable crop. How do the details look?

Technical Details

Canon R7, 200-800mm, monopod
first image: ISO 2500, f9, 1/4000s
second image: ISO 4000, f9, 1/4000s

Processed in DXO PureRaw 4 and Photoshop.

Two very nice flight shots, Allen. The Killdeer image seems just a bit dark to my eyes, but it certainly conveys the golden hour light, so you may have intended that look.

Two more exceptional images!! I’ll come back and see if I can think of any critique when I get over the jealousy of your amazing captures! (Maybe in a few years…) Seriously – no nits here. The RTH is maybe an 11 but the Kildeer is at least a 15/10.

Thank you for the comments!
Dennis, I did a rework raising the shadows (shadows/highlights tool). Posted above.

The repost looks good, Allen.

I didn’t think it could get better, but it is more real-world now. I think both are wonderful. The original has a dark mystery but doesn’t have the underexposed look.

Allen

These are pretty nice, especially the repost . You really get some spectacular in flight shots at your local pond. These are no exception. I really enjoy your work. Sorry sometimes it is a little difficult for me to get back to people because of my health issues. Thanks again.

David.
