Hawk!

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I think this is a northern harrier. Was probably shot at a local wildlife refuge. I don’t have the original anymore. Few branches were cloned away.

Hi David. This is really well done. Excellent processing to get rid of the twigs. I did a Google image search on this one and the image that popped up at the top of the list was an NPN post I made in February of 2019 at Ridgefield with you along. My write-up said something about us both clicking our shutters at the same instant, so I’m guessing you posted a version of this shot back then as well. We called it a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk at the time and I suspect our memory of the encounter was a lot better back then.

Dennis:

Now that you mention it, I remember your statement that we both click the shutter at the same time. I wish I could find the raw file.

What a great pose you captured David, with the outspread wings and a look that could kill, lol. Just the right amount of twigs to complete the image. Nice lighting from an overcast sky too. My Merlin app agrees that it’s a red-tailed hawk. The light gray BG sets him off well too.

Really nice pose you caught David. Love that penetrating straight on stare. A fine wing position. Nice that the hawk landed on the end of that branch.

This one is in the red-tailed hawk complex. Pose is excellent and you were able to maintain some color in the sky. Well done…Jim

HI David
Love the way the branches bring my eye out to the Hawk, looking back at me. Really good feather detail and eye contact.
