Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image was taken during a recent trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. We’d had a long day of hiking in the rain and snow in the mountains, but the weather cleared towards evening, so we headed down to Moraine Park and spent some peaceful time watching the elk

Technical Details

Sony A7riv at 70 mm f/11. Some basic processing with Lightroom.

Will, the color shift from the luscious greens at the bottom to the snowy mountains and clouds at the top capture how fall happens in the western mountains. The Elk looks good and is alert (although clearly not watching you). I don’t know what was around, but placing her off center would make a more dynamic view. It is a lovely scene that is so typical of RMNP in the fall.

Thanks Mark. I agree it would look better with the elk off center but the crop has foreground obstructions just off of both sides. Actually the photo was taken in early June. But the weather stayed very cool this spring, so things were not typical.
