I was sleeping!

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

When I woke up the sun was out and the day looked promising , but when I arrived at Rocky Neck State Park, the clouds rolled in and the Green Heron was just a dark spot in the marsh. If it hadn’t started to look for breakfast, I would have missed it.
Thank you for stopping by.

Peter, the colors really come through on this cloudy scene, maybe even better than if it were a sunny day. I often wonder about colors and clouds, and in this case they look brilliant! The first one with the beak wide open is my favorite. Glad you caught this moment.

This certainly looks like a nice sleep interrupted

Excellent detail in both shots, Peter, and I like the fun pose in the first. The compositions feel good to me, though I think you could present either of these in a vertical format just as well if there were a reason to do so.

Hi Mark & Dennis
Thank you for the comments, I was happy with coloring on the Heron. Here is a re-post with a more vertical framing.
Peter

Hi, Peter - this is one unhappy-looking heron! Nice poses from both, true colours, and great environment.
I agree that a more vertical crop would work well here., with more room at the bottom.
I think you posted the originals again, thinking they were your re-work.

HI Sandy
Thank you for the comment, the re-post is a change in framing.
Peter

Excellent capture, Peter, with good color and details. I think I prefer the original crop , especially with the first one as the heron is looking a bit to our right and I like the additional environment.

Hi Allen
Thank you for the comment. I am always looking for a better way to present nature and the sight provides a great learning center.
