What an interesting find Jim. It amazing what shapes mother nature can create in ice. I definitely see the cat. While I love the cat shape, I’m having a hard time getting past the out of focus boulder in the LRC of the horizontal version. It’s too bad that the cat was so close to this boulder, I downloaded this and played with crop and even CAF, but could not do better than your vertical version here.
Since I had a relatively snowless but at times, cold winter, I played with a lot of ice abstracts myself. For my personal taste, I found myself gravitating towards cooler WB, to create more of a winter feeling, similar to your second horizontal image.
I would echo the comments above and I also prefer the cooler presentation. The OOF is not that big a deal to me, but it does pull my eye just a bit. Burn it a bit more?
Hey Jim,
I’m really loving the fitting title of this post. I find that the boulder in the LRC is drawing nearly all of my attention away from the cat in the ice. But, I love the portrait version of this is both color and black and white. I can’t decide which I like better but both are better than the landscape versions for sure. Great find and fun post!
