ICM Birds in Flight Practice

KIngfisher ICM #2

Great Egret ICM

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Two shots of a kingfisher that rocketed into view near me with no warning, I could barely catch any shots of it. And a great egret that flew overhead earlier that morning.

Specific Feedback

Are these effective ICM shots, do they work, if not what should I work on?

Technical Details

Roughly for all 3:

Fuji X-H2S, 1/10s, f/7.1, ISO 80, handheld, no ND filter. Fujinon 150-600mm lens.

All of these are interesting results, Debbie. My favorite is the second kingfisher just because I really like the way the wings came out. Nothing you can do on something like that but take the photos and hope you end up with something you like. I think you picked a good shutter speed for your subjects, though you might think about adjusting it for the size of the bird. A kingfisher beats its wings many, many times in the time it takes that egret to beat its once. I also think the egret would work a little better if it had had a contrasting background.

All in all a fine trio of ICM birds in flight.

Thank you @Dennis_Plank - I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing, but it’s fun. The egret I agree with you on the background but I’ll call it ‘minimalist.’ I like the second kingfisher as well.

The Second and Third Images are way to cool and interesting … Kingfisher #2 I love the Wings. Great ICM and composition capture. Really Nice Debbie !!!
