Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Another image from Sacramento NWR. There were quite a few of these around and I liked the setting of this one.

Specific Feedback

Is the setting too busy?

Technical Details

Sony A1, FE 200-600 + 1.4 TC @ 840 mm, f/9, 1/1600, iso 8000. Noise reduction in DXO Pureraw 4, Processed in LR & PS CC.

I did a bit of digital pruning on this one, and a fairly substantial crop, but that’s about it.

Dennis, I like this a lot! I think the surrounding elements add a lot to the image - this is where they often are! As long as you’re pruning, though, you might remove a couple ore of the messier OOF sprigs in the lower left.
Nice pose from this youngster too.

Dennis: you couldn’t have asked for a more pleasing background to showcase this juvenile. It’s a great capture of this bird in a typical environment. Well done.

Dennis, this is a sweet image. Background is wonderful. the tree nicely framing the bird. And the pose is wonderful. Nicely done.

I like images like this a lot. There is excellent detail in the sparrow, the background is clean and complementary, and the perch is interesting and shows some habitat. The only change I’d might consider would be to remove the thick branch on the left that tends to lead the eye out of the frame.

Thanks @Richard_Sandor @SandyR-B @David_Bostock. @Allen_Brooks I noticed that twig yesterday and I agree it should go.

Hi Dennis, nice image - I love the brown color palette. Very complimentary to the subject. Subject is well placed in the frame amongst the branches. Agree the one in lower left could go. Well done.

THE BG pulls this scene together nicely. Subject is very sharp and like that the lower RH corner is clear of plant stems. Cleaning up the lower LH corner might work, but I think that the comp is strong enough to be good as presented…Jim
