Love the fluffed out head feathers. The composition is ok, although I might have added more on the bottom. Exposure on the bird is good with the whites under control. A higher shutter speed might have made the bird sharper.
What a delightful image Patricia. The bird is performing a ballet routine in the sky.
It appears to me that you were at the same level or slightly higher then the bird. This gives things a very different perspective.
Look forward to seeing more of your work.
Hi Patricia. The Egret really pops against that dark background. I agree with the comments above, but I’ll throw in my nickel’s worth (inflation and no cent sign on keyboard).
The shutter speed is very marginal for birds in flight. Usually you’d like at least 1/1600 or so. That’s why most of the bird photographs are at iso 640 and up.
Extra canvas on the bottom and a bit less on the top will help minimize the feel of looking down on the Egret and also give it more room to move into.
A lovely image and a little tweaking will make it even better. The glow on those golden slippers is great!
Thanks for commenting and making suggestions. I have room on the bottom to add back into the image and can add canvas for the top. I only have a very out-of-date 7D and its main fault is noise if set above an ISO of 400.
This is a fine landing pose, Patricia. The extended yellow feet really work quite well. I like the sunny conditions which bring out the brilliant color of the bird against the darker environment. I agree with others on framing. You don’t mention your focal length, but it looks like f/8 worked nicely to get all the bird focused while leaving the surroundings soft. I would definitely add the canvas back and you could easily lose a bit at the top.
I really like the light and colors in this image, Patricia. You got a fine graceful pose to work with. I think most of the areas of improvements have been covered well. I think adding some canvas to the bottom will definitely make a big improvement.
