Self Critique
I struggled with getting the exposure right with this image.
Creative direction
My vision for the image was to evoke an emotional response. The scene brought an emotional response to me because it was full of many metaphors and paralells for me.
Specific Feedback
I guess what I want to know is if this image was successful in evoking an emotional response. What aspects of technical processing could have helped this?

Description
Hiking through thick woods in Michigans upper peninsula. I was paying close attention to intimate and macro scenes where the light was shining down through the tree canopy.

Leon, I like what looks like is the shadow of the leaf up against the tree trunk, which looks like a dog’s head, ears and nose. So, if it doesn’t interfere with your artistic vision, I am wondering about cropping from the top and right to bring attention to the leaf and the shadow. Just a thought. The tree trunk to the right to me isn’t adding to the image (maybe because I am drawn to the “dog shadow”. You did a good job on exposure.
Leon, you’ve created a dramatic and somewhat stark image with the details in the leaf showing well against the darkness behind. I like your framing, with the disjointed bark on the right. You may have tried, but I wonder about some subtle dodging to bring up just hints of structure in the dark shadow.
Leon: The exposure of the leaf is just right but the featureless black BG expanse doesn’t work well for me. Teasing just a bit of shadow detail unifies the frame better and makes the light URC a good complementary element and not an isolated eye magnet. I got this little bit of detail out of your JPEG so I suspect you could do much more with the RAW file. I do like your vision and can see why this caught your attention. >=))>
