Into the Clouds

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Greenwater is a local trail system and camping area near Enumclaw Washington. Instead of hitting the obvious popular spots I took a spur road that just kept climbing until I was in the clouds. It was very drizzly and the clouds kept rolling in and out and it was tough keeping the mist off the glass. Only took a couple shots all day and this is the best of the group. I may have gotten a little greedy with the sharpening…but not too bad I hope.

Bruce, I really like the misty moodiness of this image. The cloud adds a fine dimension to the scene and sets off the color of the leaves. These conditions can be tough to deal with, and you did a good job here.

You might consider looking at a crop from the bottom in order to give the main tree and the cloud more prominence since they are stars of the show. It does not look over-sharpened to me.

Nicely done, sir!

Bruce,

Beautifully captured. I like the transition from the “reality” of the bottom to the mysterious misty top. Which kinda leads to Preston’s thought of perhaps cropping some for an alternate view that focuses on the misty forest. But for sure, I really like this as presented too; showing the clear and the misty areas.

Sharpening looks good to me, no issues there. Color, saturation and exposure all look good too.

Thanks for sharing. Your detour from the popular spots paid off.

Hi Bruce,
Wonderful atmospherics for sure and it definitely paid off by not hitting the popular spots. I have gotten some of my favorite images from staying away from the crowds. I think that lets the creative juices flow; at least it does for me. I do like the crop suggestion from @Preston_Birdwell and @Lon_Overacker for the same reasons they mentioned. My only other suggestion would be to move the magenta slider just a touch toward the green as the tree trunks look a little magenta. Preston and Lon didn’t mention it so it may be just me. I hope you show us a couple more from your trip.
