Jabiru Bulge

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

How could I pass up this portrait opportunity? I’ve seen many Jabiru storks in South America over the years, but never one that was this engorged. The Jabiru has a special neck pouch in which it stores water. It can then fly back to its nest and regurgitate the water to keep its chicks cool.

This was a significant crop, but there were enough pixels for web, and it even upsized well for print in Gigapixel.

This is really neat, Max. You’d think all that weight at one end would make flying pretty difficult. Great natural history and the photograph comes across very well so the crop doesn’t matter.

Nice catch Max. Interesting to see the neck used like this and so pronounced. Image quality looks good to me. Well done.

Wow Max. This is a fascinating image to document the water holding capacity for this stork. The detailed texture in the pouch and head, and the black, white, red colors are really well handled.

Excellent capture! I’ve never seen a jabiru so engorged, either.
Perfect detail, comp, and handling of the whites.
