Description
I found three Juniper Hairstreaks nectaring on this one cluster of flowers. These hairstreaks are hard to find because they mostly hang out in Juniper or Cedar trees, where they hide very well. None of them were ever still, so getting the camera parallel was a challenge. This is a nearly life size view cropped to 8.5 x 11.
Hi Mark,
that looks awesome. There are beautiful colors and details in the butterfly.
The composition works well. I really like that the shape of the butterfly mirrors somehow the shape of the flower… nice balance.
I wish there was a little bit more space at the right edge of the frame. But you probably cropped the image deliberately and there are other distractions to see.
You did a great job here. I am currently trying to improve my patience for macro photography. And that’s one of my biggest challenges.
The pastel colors in the Hairstreak are nicely complimented by the BG colors.
I totally understand how difficult it is to get the focal plane parallel to the BF, I have reverted back to using a monopod with a ball head lately just to keep the camera steady, that method has drawbacks when it comes to fast moving subjects like this, they rarely give me enough time to compose…and… get the focal plane right
I’m a little undecided on crop, I sort of would like a tad more canvas on the left but this works great as it is really!
Mark, I have never seen a Juniper Hairstreak, evidently, but I love the colors of him. As @Jens_Ober mentioned, the BG colors compliments him nicely. Wonderful details throughout the subject, and I know it is hard to be aligned so to get everything sharp in focus. It might could use a touch more room on both sides, but I am good with this as well. He is beautiful.
This looks really lovely. You nailed focus on the whole butterfly and I love you can see the wing scales so clearly even in this “small” web size. Background colors are also such a nice complement to the butterfly.
Not much I can add to this compared to what others have already said (a bit of sensor dust you might want to clone out ) except to complement you on a job well done!
Hi Mark, Jealous! I’ve never seen one of these and would really like to much less get a photo this nice. Fine sharpness and great color. A real beauty. I agree with Shirley on adding more room on both sides. Nice catch!
