The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was sitting on the porch the other day and thought I saw a couple of Golden-crowned Sparrows which are winter visitors here. I got the camera and took some photos, but when I put them up on the screen, they turned out to be this, so it’s not winter yet.

Specific Feedback

I know the perch is a bit overwhelming, but I couldn’t get close enough to let the bird dominate the image and I like the perch a lot. Opinions?

I can’t quite explain why, but I really like the perch as presented, especially the hole in it. While it takes up more space than the bird, I do not think it is overwhelming. I suppose it could be cropped some from the bottom , but I like the proportions as presented.

It’s a nice looking perch. Perhaps a little over weming for size, but it is colorful and different. The bird itself has a great pose and you’ve captured the detail quite well. I kind of like it.

Excellent capture with great detail, a lovely BG and the most gorgeous perch I’ve seen in a long time! But my eye keeps going to the hole. I wonder if that would be less if the BG were darker at the bottom? Otherwise, for my taste the composition would be lovely with a crop to just above the hole.

Thanks, @Jim_Gavin @David_Schoen and @Diane_Miller. I’ve darkened the background in the bottom, darkened the light colored lichen more and made some modest changes to the bird.

Yes!! The RP works for me! And I’m green with jealousy about that perch!

An old cedar fence post my wife scavenged 20 years ago. It has to be screwed to a metal post to stay upright, but it and another from the same era do make great perches.
