Allen:
Superb images of this kingfisher.. the flight shots are terrific. Good wing position. Excellent detail. A good series. how close were you to the bird from the looks of the depth of fields, it looks like you were pretty close. These birds seem pretty tame and accustomed to people taking their picture., etc.

Hi David, thanks. These were all taken at 800mm on my crop sensor (1.6x) R7. I don’t know the actual distance but probably farther away than you might think. The birds were in the middle of the pond so the background trees were quite a distance back and thus blurred out. Thank you for commenting.

More awesome Kingfishers, Allen. Is there a campground at that park? I may just have to figure out a road trip.

LOL Dennis, thanks. No campground. And the pond is probably too hit or miss to justify a trip anyway.

These are great Allen, I particular like the third one.
The fourth somehow doesn’t seem to fit well with the others to me because of the different colour temperature.

Thanks Ryan. The last one was taken earlier than the others thus the warmer color and softer light.

That pond seems to be a special place for your karma – more excellent images! Gorgeous detail and light!! Maybe a tad bit more exposure on the last one?
