Kingfishers

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Visited the state park pond the last couple of mornings. Yesterday the kingfishers were chasing each other which gave a better opportunity for flight shots. They did some fishing too. Wondering if the worn and missing feathers are from all the fighting they do as well as diving for fish in the stumpy pond.

Specific Feedback

Some of these were good size crops. Any thoughts on image quality?

IQ looks pretty good to me Allen. Your in flight images are amazing. I think I actually like the last image here best, just because the Kingfisher is flipping the fish for dinner. The BGs are a bit busy, but nicely toned down and you’ve done a great job getting clean and clear images of the birds.

All very nice, Allen. I particularly like the first which shows off the molting wings so well.

More great shots of a tough bird to photograph. I guess I’d go with the third for the look the kingfisher is giving you and the more OOF background. Image quality looks good.

I still have yet to get a descent shot of these guys around the Duck Pond. A wonderful series and I like the fish toss the best, but the rest made my decision very difficult. Looks like the one bird is going through a very late molt. New feathers are coming in…Jim
