Lamar Sage and Rocks

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is near the West end of the Lamar Valley coming over the hill from the Yellowstone River Bridge. The early morning light, the misty hills above and the green grass and trees caught my attention.

Specific Feedback

I have a wider crop of this little swale, but I liked the feel of these two trees, the surrounding rocks and sage brush, backed up against the dark shadowy pine forest. Is the squarish crop good? I wanted to cut off some extra trees to the right of this part of the scene. I do have a wider view of this little swale.

Technical Details

Canon 5DMiii, f16, 1/125s, iso 100, -1 ev, 24-105 lens at 105 mm. Cropped for composition.

My first impression was to enjoy the sorta jangly angles of the near slope going doww to the right, the right hand slope going up, and the slope on the left going up more sharply. Meanwhile the boulders and trees are all quietly vertical, and seem to me to be pleasingly arranged. The suggestion of overhanging mist feels just fine to me as a grace note, as you seem to want to convey the tapestry of the landscape.
The photograph takes me right to Lamar Valley.
Looks like the image was taken in early season, as the grass is really green, but with no wildflowers yet. For me, the green is a little toward chartreuse.

Thank you for your thoughts @Dick_Knudson. I have a tendency toward oversaturation sometimes on the greens.
