Hi Sandy, what an interesting looking bird. Love the straight on look at us and the interesting perch. Composition looks good to me. I can just kind of start to see the effect of a large crop but I think you managed it well.

Sandy the first thing that strikes me here is how intense the Laughing Falcon’s stare is—it almost feels like it’s challenging the viewer. The eerie sound of this bird’s call adds an extra layer of intrigue when you think about its expression.

For a large crop, the focus on the bird holds up well. The blurred background helps isolate the falcon, keeping it as the central focus without distractions. The framing with the “Y” shaped perch gives the image a grounded balance, making sure the eye doesn’t wander too far from the subject.

The overall mood leans toward quiet intensity, which works well with the bird’s posture and that haunting backstory of its call. Nice one! :+1:

Excellent detail in the falcon, Sandy. Amazing how much you can crop an image for web presentation and get away with it. You might look at bringing down some of the brighter lichen patches if you can without making them look gray and ugly. Other than that I really like this image. The perch has incredible character.

Nice! Great look from the falcon, I had to listen to the call to see what it sounded like. I love the perch, and the BG is really nice and smooth. I’m not seeing an IQ loss from the crop.

An interesting looking bird; somehow the head and body don’t quite seem to match. Good pose with the stare at the viewer. Nice perch and background.

Hi Sandy
Thank. you for sharing the Laughing Falcon. The falcon also looks like it came from an asylum. Nice framing and great feather coloring.
