Description

Costa Rica
I love the unusual colouring of these birds.
As “brood parasites”, Cuckoos don’t build nests, but lay their eggs in the nests of other birds. Interestingly, they tend to lay their eggs in the nests of the species of bird that raised them.
Several OOF strands of lichen across the tail removed.

Nicely done Sandy. Terrific pose with that head turn. Colors look good and the perch is interesting too. Whites on the lower tail are nicely white and not grayed out - I think the relative lack of detail there is a DOF issue (and not a big deal) and not exposure. F10 may have rendered the whole tail really sharp though - but not a big issue here. Interesting fact about where they lay their eggs.

Hi Sandy
You’re correct about Squirrel Cuckoo feather coloring. The head turn and eye contact are very nice, but my eye keeps going to the Cuckoo’s tail. ( it just so big).
Nice work and thank you for bring this bird to us.

Great colors. I like the perch and pose and the contrasting background. As Peter said, it’s nice to see these exotic birds.

Very cool capture of a nifty subject and environment. Well done!
