Very nice flight shot, Allen. It’s a good catch with excellent exposure and composition. My only nit is the wing position-it’s just not very energetic looking. Technically it’s an excellent image, but it just doesn’t have the zing that a full up or full down wing position might give it.
What I like about this image is how well the bird pops against the dark green background. There’s just enough texture in the green background to give it some interest. I agree the wing position could be better but you get what you get.
Good detail and handling of the whites and the heron pops nicely against the background. The perch does look like an alligator. After reading the comments about the wing position, it looks to me as if the heron is jumping down into the water.
