John, this totally works for me. Along with the thoughts on simplicity, the branch ribbing below the snow, the casting shadows from the pine needles, and the snow texture all work together. The vertical starting in the LLC was a perfect choice too…
While the composition and “attractiveness” are fine, the interest is what draws me to it. I wonder what nature did to create such an interesting scene. Very intriguing.
It’s interesting in that the ridge and the plants seem to be part of the same thing. There’s also a sense of movement from lower left to upper right. I don’t know. I guess its kind of humorous.
Composition, interest and attractiveness are all wonderful!! (For me, the two former items ensure the latter.) Excellent of you to see this and create a composition that fits the pieces together. I’m clueless about the sizes of the little trees (spruce?) but I’m guessing maybe a foot from the texture in the snow? There seem to be two baby cones on the closer one.
Hi John,
This is an intriguing intimate landscape that contains some wonderful elements. The diagonal placement of the ridge in the snow adds some visual tension and I love the fact that it is connected to the two evergreens; seemingly making them as one. The sidelight has created wonderful shadows as well as some lovely details and textures in the snow. Another great image from your trip.
John,
Fantastic, intimate nature portrait! Great vision of course to see this. The composition is wonderful; great line/movement in the comp; love the light/contrast and the texture, yeah, the texture!
I have only one minor suggestion and I’m not sure how possible it is or how it could be done, but I’m wishing for a little more texture in the snow to the left of the ridge and mostly in the upper left area. Now the large, full view certainly shows the texture and detail (love the sharpness throughout), so again I’m not sure if it could be enhanced. Then again, the textured snow really helps set off the lines, shadows and tree tops.
John, this is quite striking. The sharpness of the needles feels like needles. That ridge through the small trees sure leaves me wondering what happened. The shadows add to the sense of movement and your got great detail in the snow. The white frame shows off the bluish tint of the snow nicely. While it’s very different from your previous posts, it’s equally attractive, just in a different fashing.
