I was in Rocky Mountain National Park the first week of October to photograph the Elk rut. I got to Moraine Park early, and just as the sun began to rise, Long’s Peak turned a beautiful rose color for just a couple of minutes. I quickly adjusted my settings and captured the 14,000-foot peak at its most glorious.

Charles: One of my favorite places on the planet. I have spent many days in Moraine Park over the years and have had similar experiences with Long’s Peak. My only suggestion would be to bring up the FG shadows just a tiny bit. That illuminated cloud above the peak is icing on the cake. Nicely done. >=))>
Being able to capture the Diamond in such a brilliant Alpen Glow is a rare opportunity. Very nice overall. I do agree with Bill Fach, to bring FG shadows up a bit.
I really love this image. The color of the lighted part of the mountain is just gorgeous. I think you can lighten up the foreground a bit though I think it might detract from the focus on the lighted part which is the main focus of the picture. Really nice capture.
Charles, this is a great look at The Diamond Face of Long’s. I wouldn’t change a thing as this shows the subtleness of first light on a well known Icon.
Hi Mark,
I appreciate your comment, as I too don’t think this image needs tweaking. To me, it shows exactly what I want it to show in terms of shadow, etc.
