Did the chick actually get that crab down? The light in the first works quite nicely, Allen. The angles of the birds in the second makes it more of a problem, but the addition of the chick compensates for a lot.

I love this! You did well with the harsh light. Nice reflections, and the feeding behaviour is endearing. Great catch!

Super catch (for both of you)! Is that a crayfish? (I didn’t know they were that far north.) I think these could also be very nice in landscape format, although I definitely see wanting to keep the reflection in the first. It could be interesting to lighten the first just a bit so the water color matches in both.

You’ve handled the noon-day sun very well. The interaction of the adult and chick is lovely and I love seeing the transparency of the yabbie in the first image.

I like Diane’s idea of matching the colour.

Thanks @Dennis_Plank , @Sandy_Richards-Brown , @Diane_Miller , and @glennie for your kind comments. Diane, I think it is a crayfish and Dennis, I think it did swallow it-even the mother looks amazed.

Definitely a crayfish and I can’t believe that little grebe swallowed that thing whole. Wow. Great interaction in the second image and you handled the harsh light really well. I love all of the little grasses poking up just above the water surface. I feel like you can lighten that first image a bit to bring out a little more detail. Nice captures. Very exciting stuff.

Hi Allen, love seeing this feeding behavior. Great setting with calm water and a bit of grass. You handled the harsh light well. I could see more of a landscape crop as suggested above.
