Madera Canyon Coues Doe

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There were several semi-habituated Coues deer at the Proctor picnic use area hanging around and browsing on the brush. They were not fearful at all. This is from a few years back.

Specific Feedback

I like the perspective of this curious doe looking in the window, so to speak. Does the OOF deer in the BG distract, or add to the overall scene? I also like the dappled leaf shadows on this doe’s face.

Technical Details

Canon 60D, f7.1, 1/2500 sec (looking for birds), iso 320, -1 EV, 100-400 lens at 180 mm. Doe was about 16 feet away.

Hi Ed, I like this portrait with fine detail and interesting shadows on the doe. I like the angled view of the doe’s head. The oof deer in the BG distracts just a wee bit for me.

Thank you @Allen_Sparks. I wasn’t sure about the deer in the BG.
