Young Mule Deer at Lory State Park, CO

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I went up to Lory State Park a few nights ago to look for owls. I found a doe and three young mule deer on the way up and stopped to take some shots. It was golden hour in the late afternoon.

Specific Feedback

I’m working on doing better with recovering furry/feathered edges when I blur the background.

Technical Details

Fuji X-H2S, 1/1600s, f/8.0, ISO 800, 600mm, Fujinon XF 150-600mm lens.

Hi Laurie, yep, that late afternoon light really looks good on him. The square format was a good choice too and love the pose. Lots of nice detail in his hair. BTW, I have the Fuji X-H2 and love it.

Your edges look great in this Laurie. Nice light, great fur detail, and nice to have a direct look from the young deer.

Nicely captured with some great details here.
I wonder what are those oof horizontal bars behind, some kind of fence?
