Description
I think it is really difficult to get a good house for an image that isn’t too saturated in the Reds. That said the conversion from tiff image to JPEG makes it really difficult to get the colors to look right. I actually had to under saturate this image initially before it was converted to JPEG.
The perch is a piece of basalt from Mount Saint Helens.
Technical Details
Iso-8000, 200-600+1.4 X, F9, 2000th, fill flash, about 35% of full frame.

wow iso 8000 ! handled very well - what was your shutter speed David ? I wonder if you could have gotten away with a lot less
WB - great
Colors and exposure - great
Composition - perfect!
Nits - lighten black areas in the background
darken the rock it is sitting on
Cheers!

Very nice, David. I’m not bothered by the perch or the dark areas of the background (I think trying to lighten those black areas would look weird, but you could try it). Good pose and the perch is really cool. My nit: The shade of red looks just slightly off to me, although these can be quite variable.
My thoughts are similar to Dennis. I’m fine with the rock and BG. Red on the bird seems manipulated but I could be wrong. A fine catch.
David, this is a fine look at this Finch. The TC and the f9 pushed that ISO up, even though you used a fill flash. Still, the image looks great. No noise and the light looks natural. I’m good with the rock and the BG. Nice shot.
