Mama and the Kids

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was recently at a friend’s pond to shoot their wood ducks and managed to get seven of this mama’s 10 ducklings.

Specific Feedback

I cropped out the uninteresting upper BG area and ended up with a kinda “cinemascope” shape that I like. Do you think it works?

This is a sweet shot Dave. It is great to have them all coming straight at you. The ducklings a so cute. I like the overall composition and the catchlights. The full sized image seems to show the softening effects of the cropping just a bit.

Hi Dave, Crop looks good to me. Nice to see a family of wood ducks like this. The birds seem soft as Ed mentions. I could also see toning down some of the highlights on the chicks. Nice catch overall.

So cool, Dave. Wood Ducks are one of my favorites, but I’ve never seen their ducklings.

The crop and the low perspective works well.
