Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We got up before dawn and were desperately searching for a cup of coffee somewhere near Yellowstone NP. We drove out to Gardiner, no luck, even at the lone open gas station. We drove back into Mammoth Hot Springs and couldn’t find a market open that early. Desperate, we drove on down the road and really enjoyed the view of the elk at the fumeroles and the view of the Upper Terrace from below.

Specific Feedback

This was a merge of two landscape images. I could figure out which to use, the longer version or the cropped version, so I posted both of them. Any comments or suggestions are very welcome. Thanks for looking this over.

Technical Details

Canon 5DMiii, f16, 1/30s, -1.3ev, 24-105 lens at 35mm. Blend of two images.

I prefer the panoramic version in this case, the first case.

Thank you very m uch @Igor_Doncov.

Ah the coffee chase. I’ve played that game, so now I just bring the makings and roll my own. :grinning:

I’m with @Igor_Doncov, I prefer the wider view. My only other thought would be to desaturate those reds just a tiny bit?

Thank you @John_Williams. I tried to desaturate the colors, mostly the reds for the cropped version and didn’t get much out of it. I might have to go all the way back to the two original RAW files to see if I can get more desaturation there. Thank you.

I too prefer the wider one but isn’t nice the bush cut by the line that closes the composition. You can’t get rid of it somehow? I agree about the over saturated red but in the Raw converter you will certainly find the way.

Thank you @Giuseppe_Guadagno. I think I cloned out the bushes you were looking at and I’ve figured out how to desaturate some of those bright red grasses. I think this looks a bit more realistic.
