Mane shake-Repost-cropped

Original

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image was created in the Maasai Mara following an afternoon rainstorm. It was captured during the latter part of March, which is the time approaching the wet season (aka the long rains), in the Mara. At this time of year you can be assured that there will be an afternoon rainstorm, and can watch it approach.
I set out to photograph a male lion as he expelled the water from his mane following a rainstorm, and transformed from a hunkered down form in the long grass to the majestic beast that we know and respect.
I was envisioning a mature pride male with a long black mane, but had to settle for a sub-adult. To his credit, however, he did a magnificent job of shaking the water from his mane. To the extent that if one looks closely one can see that there are droplets extending almost to the right hand border of the frame. This encouraged me to not crop the image.
I hope for the opportunity to photograph him as an adult.

I just love the swirling water, very nicely captured.
Your composition works fine here but I may prefer a tighter crop to emphasise the swirling water.

I love the swirling action in this Garnet. Great catch, and good job with the lighting and colors.

nice! love the action and water. I agree with @JRajput I might prefer a closer crop and also maybe try Black and White.

Hi Sandy, Thank you for the feedback. I deliberately slowed the shutter speed to emphasize the motion of the shake while keeping the eye sharp, and giving an indication of the volume of water expelled from the mane. It was quite a storm.

Thanks @JRajput , @Ed_Williams , @paulanderson for the feedback. I have cropped the image, Hope I have done the repost correctly. Paul, I tried the image in B&W and didn’t like it as much as the colour.
