Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Wandering along the Merced River through Yosemite this combination of different ripple patterns caught my eye. The blue sky was reflecting in part of the turbulent water, while the trees were reflected around that.
Specific Feedback
Does this do anything for you? Balanced? This is a crop of a larger view, but the left-hand part didn’t seem like it was adding anything.
Technical Details
Handheld, not sure if I had the polarizer on.

I like the contrast between the reflected trees and reflected sky, Bonnie. The ripples in the blue area add an interesting change in texture as well. It reminds me a bit of a wave coming into a beach to erase everything that’s happened since the previous one.
Bonnie, Looks like you have taken lessons from Monet here. I really like your impressionist, abstract pastels. You are quite good a seeing and identifying successful intimate landscapes.
You’re getting very adept at these. I don’t have any changes to suggest.
Bonnie, lovely abstract image! Flow was the first thing that popped into my head. The reflected trees appear more like tributaries that feed into a larger river. Really cool! It would have been tempting to just focus the image on the random abstract shapes in the reflections but by including the water at the bottom, it elevates the mystery of the image. You could try boosting the midtones slightly.
Thanks, @Dennis_Plank, @Larry_Greenbaum, @Don_Peters, and @Alfredo_Mora.
I have some that are just of the tree reflections, but including that bit of water seemed more interesting to me.
